About Haukley
Free classic movies and shows, chosen by people.
Haukley is a free streaming service for films and series that belong to everyone. We started it in 2026 with a simple idea: a century of great movies is in the public domain, but most of it is scattered across low-quality uploads with no context. Haukley collects the best of it in good copies, organizes it into collections, and tells you what each film is and why it is free.
What we show
The library has nearly 100 films and series, grouped into collections you can browse on this site:
- Silent comedy from Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd.
- Pioneers of Black Cinema: films by Oscar Micheaux, Spencer Williams and Powell Lindsay, made for Black audiences when Hollywood shut Black artists out.
- Film noir, classic horror, swashbucklers and westerns.
- Early TV and documentary series, including NASA's Apollo mission films.
- Animated shorts from the Blender studio, released under Creative Commons.

How we choose and check every title
Before a film goes up we research its copyright status in the United States: when it was published, whether its copyright was renewed, whether it was made by the federal government, or which Creative Commons license its makers chose. We check the copy we stream for later additions, like a modern music score or a distributor's logo, that could carry their own rights, and we leave out films where that is unclear. Each film's page says in plain words why it is free to watch.
Some older films reflect the attitudes of their time. Where that matters we add a short content note to the film's page and show it before playback, rather than editing the film.
How Haukley is paid for
Haukley is free and supported by short ads, like broadcast TV. There is no subscription and no credit card. We also offer filmmakers a free, non-exclusive way to reach viewers, with half of the ad revenue their film earns; see For filmmakers.
Where to watch
On the web at haukley.com/watch, on iPhone and Apple TV, and on Amazon Fire TV. Roku, LG and Samsung apps are on the way. Haukley is available in the United States, because public-domain status differs from country to country.
